Promoting the Wind Sports Lifestyle

Industry Wide Demo Day

The AWSI board is excited to announce a change of venue to the annual demo held after the Surf Expo in Orlando each September.

Our members have requested the demos be held in a location where kiteboarding and windsurfing are available together. We have selected Fort De Soto Park in Pinellas County, in the Tampa - St Pete area on the west coast of Florida. (Check out the link below). Ft De Soto Park is west of Orlando a little over an hour drive, with an excellent international airport  close.

The Demo will coincide with a Dealer Symposium at a central hotel on the way to the demo site. Guest speakers are scheduled in the mornings to discuss distributor relations, freight programs and MARGINS! Afternoons are reserved for product demos and technical product education. Monday evening the AWSI will host a dinner.... no we're hosting a PARTY to get everyone together for a lot of fun and camaraderie!

Just one more reason to go to surf expo... and check out this place, it's a tropical island just waiting for you! Fort De Soto Park

Your Invited!

Distributor members. The AWSI board has worked hard to schedule a distributor meeting, for Friday June 29th. The meeting will take place in Hood River, the day before the start of the Gorge Wind Fest.

Hey, you should be in Hood River to help out your retail dealers with this popular consumer event anyway, might as well come a day early, learn a little, play a little and join everyone Friday night for dinner and a couple of laughs.

The morning meeting will consist of speakers discussing the present state of the board sports market, retailer/rep relationships, freight programs and maintaining margins. There will be various 'board meetings' in the afternoon, with dinner scheduled for that evening.

Make your travel arrangements now, and expect more details in the coming weeks.

Chicken or the egg?

What's going on around here?

Our Executive Directors, Darren and Charlie have been calling distributors and retailers to discuss the direction of our association and the upcoming trade show. They have received many good comments, but the biggest question is 'who is going to the trade show?' The retailers are saying they would love to go and see ALL the product offering in one place, and be able to demo the gear. The distributors are saying they will go if the retailers are there to look at their products.

Just do it! Support the sports you love and the sports your making your lively hood from! Join  your association, get your booth or register for the Surf Expo.

Your association dues are paid on an annual basis from March 1 to February 28.

Stand UP Paddle Surfing

Many of our Manufacturer - Distributor members have new products in the pipeline due out early summer of 2007. Some just SUP boards and some hybrid SUP boards with mast foot attachment points. Both of the large Epoxy Surfboard manufactures have multiple models out or coming out in the next few months, and the general public is scrambling around having boards made locally. The boards are retailing in the $1500 range, with paddles retailing over $300.

Is this the next big thing? Many manufactures are counting on it, and we as an industry should be embracing the possibility.

Industry Statistics

The distributor/manufacturers survey is in the mail.... well almost, but you will be getting soon. The new  statistics will be available to the participants of the survey at no charge. Please contact  the AWSI at info@awsiwindsports.org with requests.

The industry market survey is available online at: Survey07.
